Intern Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)

An intern non-disclosure agreement is used by businesses and professionals to ensure that interns don’t share or improperly use confidential information. The NDA will need to define which information is confidential, the period for which the intern is bound to the agreement, and the consequences for breaking its terms.

Why Internships May Require NDAs

Internships benefit both the intern and their sponsor by providing the intern with real-world experience in their field and the sponsor with free or low-paid assistance.

However, the sponsor may be required to reveal sensitive information during the internship that could put their business or company at risk.

These risks include:

  • The intern using trade secrets and confidential practices while working for a competitor.
  • The disclosure of customer and client records.
  • Mishandling confidential information, especially if the sponsor is a financial institution or legal practitioner.
