When to Use UUMV Demand Letter
A UUMV demand letter is used when a car, boat, plane, or other motor vehicle is loaned to someone who then fails to return it as agreed. In certain Texas counties, sending a UUMV demand letter is required before reporting a vehicle as stolen.[1]
Demand Process
- Complete a UUMV Demand Letter. The letter must include a:
- Vehicle description (make, model, color, VIN, etc.).
- Return deadline, which must be within 10 days of receipt of the letter.
- Specific address for returning the vehicle.
- Send the UUMV demand letter to the offender by certified mail.
- If the vehicle isn’t returned within 10 days, report the crime to a law enforcement agency.
