Using Employee Evaluation Forms

Employees must be aware of what standards they are expected to meet. Performance reviews can help an employee better fit the employer’s standards and policies, potentially leading to promotions and higher pay.

Consistency is a crucial component of the performance assessment process.[1] Each employee must be held to the same standard regardless of race, color, religion, sex, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, or age.[2]

Discrimination Complaints

When a performance evaluation sparks a discrimination complaint from an employee, employers should conduct an investigation and[3]:

  1. Ask the employee why they felt the evaluation was discriminatory and if they could provide specific examples.
  2. Discuss the employee’s concerns with the person who conducted the evaluation and others who may provide an appropriate perspective.
  3. Inform the employee of what was discovered and the steps that will be taken to make sure the discrimination stops and to remedy any negative effects.
