Using Employee Evaluation Forms

Employees must be aware of what standards they are expected to meet. Performance reviews can help an employee better fit the employer’s standards and policies, potentially leading to promotions and higher pay.

Consistency is a crucial component of the performance assessment process.[1] Each employee must be held to the same standard regardless of race, color, religion, sex, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, or age.[2]

Discrimination Complaints

When a performance evaluation sparks a discrimination complaint from an employee, employers should conduct an investigation and[3]:

  • Ask questions and request specific examples about why the employee felt the evaluation was discriminatory.
  • Speak to all relevant parties about the evaluation, including the employee’s manager, coworkers, and anyone able to provide an appropriate perspective.
  • Document the process, note relevant observations, evidence, and take appropriate corrective or preventative actions.
  • Inform the employee of what was discovered and what will happen next.
