A Massachusetts subcontractor agreement is a contract through which a general contractor hires a subcontract to complete a specific portion of a larger project. The document defines the terms and conditions of the working relationship of the parties, as well as the relationship between the subcontractor and the client. Although the subcontractor does not have a contract with the client personally, they are still obligated to perform their services in accordance with the initial agreement.

A subcontractor agreement includes provisions that will detail the services to be performed by the subcontractor, their rights and responsibilities, the dates of commencement and completion, the payment amount and schedule, and termination of the contract. The subcontractor is held accountable for maintaining liability insurance and the appropriate business licenses, as well as overseeing the work of their employees.
