A Maryland subcontractor agreement establishes the terms by which a subcontractor will be engaged to complete a portion of the hiring contractor’s larger project. The contract will relay the services that the subcontractor will be required to complete, the date by which the work must be completed, and the compensation they will receive.

A subcontractor is a self-employed individual or a company that has been hired by someone other than the principal client, which could be the general contractor or another subcontractor who has the authorization to assign subcontractors. It is the party that hired the subcontractor that is responsible for compensating them for their services, not the client. The general contractor is also responsible for the quality of the subcontractor’s work and for ensuring it fulfills the obligations of the initial contract.
