The Massachusetts roommate agreement is used to establish a positive relationship between roommates by distinguishing each occupant’s household responsibilities and financial obligations. Before moving in together, the prospective roommates should discuss their personal needs and expectations for the shared dwelling. The roommates may specify how rent is divided, and cleaning standards should be instituted to help maintain the cleanliness of the common and private areas of the premises. After a mutual agreement is reached, the parties may sign the document to bind themselves to the terms stated therein.
