A Utah notary acknowledgment is used to verify the authenticity of a signature on a legal document. The form is completed by a notarial officer and includes the date of acknowledgment, the name of the signer, and the notary’s title, signature, and seal. Before executing the acknowledgment, the notary will need to confirm the signer’s ID, and the signer will need to admit to voluntarily signing the legal document.
Notaries are required to renew their commission every four years (§ 46-1-3(5)(a)(i)).
Is Online Notarization Legal in Utah?
Yes. Online notarization is permitted since the enactment of 2019’s House Bill 52 if the acknowledgment includes the notary’s name, commission number, and the following phrases:
- “notary public”
- “state of Utah”
- “my commission expires on”
