Signing Requirements
Advance directives must be signed by at least two witnesses.[1]
The witness cannot be any of the following:
- Under 19
- Paying for the principal’s treatment
- The person who signed the advance directive on the principal’s behalf
- The health care proxy
- Related to the principal
- Entitled to any of the principal’s estate

Revocation
An Alabama advance directive can be revoked by[2]:
- Physically destroying it.
- Signing a written revocation.
- Expressing the revocation out loud in front of a witness who signs a document confirming the intent.
Registering
The advance directive can be registered by filing with the probate judge of the principal’s county.[3] Registration is not mandatory.
