Rhode Island Vehicle Registration (3 Steps)

State law requires newly purchased vehicles to be registered before they can be driven on highways.[1]
 

1. Obtain Bill of Sale and Certificate of Title

Before the buyer can register their vehicle, they must get the Motor Vehicle Bill of Sale and Certificate of Title from the seller.[2] The seller must complete the seller’s information section of the certificate, assigning the title to the buyer.[3]

2. Complete Sales Tax Form and Application

The buyer must complete the following forms before applying for titling and registration:[4]
