Rhode Island Concealed Carry
Rhode Island residents are required to apply for a license before concealed or open carrying a handgun anywhere within the state. To apply for a concealed carry license, applicants must complete the steps below.
- Fill out the Application for License to Carry a Concealed Weapon. The application form must be signed or stamped by the local Police Chief or a city hall official.
- Obtain 2 passport-style photos and reference letters from 3 different references (must be notarized).
- Complete training for concealed carry with a certified weapons instructor.
- Submit a full set of fingerprints on an FBI Fingerprint Application Card (FD-258).
- Write a letter that states the reasons for which the applicant requires a concealed carry permit.
- Submit all the above forms, documentation, letters, and photos to the local licensing authorities (police chief or town council) in their county.
