Montana Concealed Carry
Montana residents can carry a concealed weapon without a permit if they are eligible to own a firearm under state and federal law.[2] The optional Concealed Weapon Permit may be obtained through the County Sheriff’s Office. Individuals 18 years of age and older may apply, provided they[3]:
- Have been a resident of Montana for a minimum of six months.
- Possess a state-issued photo ID.
- Are eligible under Montana law to own a firearm.
- Have taken an approved Fish, Wildlife & Parks or law enforcement firearm safety course (can be done online).
- Complete a Concealed Weapons Permit form (available at sheriff’s office).
- Consent to a background check and fingerprinting, and pay the application fee.[4]
The sheriff will inform the applicant within 60 days if the permit is approved.
