Motorboats and non-motorized boats 14 feet in length or more must be registered.^[1] The buyer must submit their title application within 45 days of purchase to avoid late fees.^[2]

Registration and titling can be done by completing the following steps:

1. Collect the following documents:
   • Original Certificate of Title – Must be assigned to the buyer.
   • Bill of Sale
   • Vessel/Boat Application – The seller must complete the “Tax Affidavit” portion of the form; the buyer must complete the rest.
   • Affidavit of Fact and Verification of Vessel or Outboard Motor Serial Number (if applicable) – Required if the boat has never been titled or registered in Texas.
2. Submit the documents to a TPWD Office or a participating County Office.
3. Pay the applicable registration and titling fees and sales tax.
