Texas Boat Registration
Motorboats and non-motorized boats 14 feet in length or more must be registered.[1] The buyer must submit their title application within 45 days of purchase to avoid late fees.[2]
Registration and titling can be done by completing the following steps:
- Collect the following documents:
- Original Certificate of Title – Must be assigned to the buyer.
- Bill of Sale
- Vessel/Boat Application – The seller must complete the “Tax Affidavit” portion of the form; the buyer must complete the rest.
- Affidavit of Fact and Verification of Vessel or Outboard Motor Serial Number (if applicable) – Required if the boat has never been titled or registered in Texas.
- Submit the documents to a TPWD Office or a participating County Office.
- Pay the applicable registration and titling fees and sales tax.
