Vermont Boat Registration
Motorboats must be registered and visibly display the registration number.[1] Titling is required for boats 16 feet or longer, excluding manually powered boats or those with a motor of 10 horsepower or less.[2]
Residents can register and title newly-purchased used vessels by following the steps below.[3]
- Prepare the following documents:
- Application for Motorboat Registration
- Certificate of Title – Signed over to the purchaser.
- Bill of Sale – Signed by the seller.
- Schedule an appointment at a DMV office.
- Submit the documents to the office and pay the registration fee, titling fees (if applicable), and sales tax.
