Registration Exemptions – The following boats do not need to be registered[1]:
- Boats without a motor or sail (e.g., canoes, lifeboats, rowboats)
- Boats less than 16 feet with a motor of 10 horsepower or less used on non-federal waters
- Boats registered out-of-state that are in WA waters for 60 days or less
Washington Boat Registration
Registration must be performed within 15 days of purchase.[2]
To apply for registration and titling, the new owner must complete the following[3]:
- Submit the following documents to a vehicle licensing office:
- Vessel Title Application – Must be notarized or signed in front of a licensing agent.
- Vessel Bill of Sale
- Certificate of Title – Signed over to the buyer.
- Pay the use tax (or present proof that taxes have been paid) and registration and titling fees.
