Maine Concealed Carry
Concealed carry is allowed without a permit in Maine for individuals over the age of 21 who are legally allowed to carry a firearm (or those over 18 who are members of the National Guard/Armed Forces).
A permit may be useful to individuals who want to carry out of state and those aged 18 to 21 who wish to carry concealed. Those who want to apply must[2]:
- Determine whether the State Police or local police department/town office is responsible for issuing permits in their municipality. If the town is not listed here, the applicant will need to check with the local police directly about application procedures.[3]
- Complete a firearms safety course and obtain certification that shows Proof of Knowledge of Handgun Safety (HGS).
- Fill out the Application for a Permit to Carry Concealed Handgun packet (Maine Resident Applicant | Non-Resident Applicant).
- Obtain a passport-quality photograph in color.
- Get a copy of their passport, birth certificate, or INS document.
- Send all items with the application fee to:
