New Mexico Boat Registration
All motorboats are required to be registered in New Mexico once ownership has transferred to a new party, and if they’re over 10 feet, they must also be titled.[1] Both registration and titling must be applied for within 30 days to avoid late penalties.[2]
To complete their application for title and registration, the new owner must visit an MVD office with the following[3]:
- Application for Vessel Title and Registration (MVD-10003)
- Certificate of Title – Signed over from previous owner.
- Bill of Sale (required if there is no Certificate of Title or title is incomplete)
- Valid ID or 2 proofs of New Mexico residency
At the MVD office, the applicant will be required to pay excise tax on the boat, as well as titling and registration fees (see “Fees“).
