When an Affidavit of Residency is Used
An affidavit of residency is used to prove that the person signing it lives at the address stated therein. It may be required by schools, employers, the DMV, or other agencies and institutions as proof of residency.
How to Prove an Address
An applicant seeking to prove residency before an institution or agency will often need to present a proof of address. This may include utility bills, leases, or government mail.
If the applicant does not have a proof of address document, some authorities may accept an affidavit of residence executed before a notary public. In some cases, the applicant will need to sign the affidavit with a representative or an individual who shares their address (and who must also provide documentation verifying their relationship to the applicant).
