When an Affidavit of Residency is Used

An affidavit of residency is used to prove that the person signing it lives at the address stated therein. It may be required by schools, employers, the DMV, or other agencies and institutions as proof of residency.

How to Prove a Residency

To prove a residency, the affiant will usually need to present a proof of address to a notary and sign the affidavit in their presence. Generally, utility bills, leases, and government mail are acceptable forms of proof of address. In some cases, an affidavit of service is used when these documents are unavailable.
