Idaho Boat Registration

New owners must submit an application to transfer registration to their name within 15 days of purchasing a boat.[1] All motorized boats and sailboats must be registered with the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR)[2]

Registration may be done[3]:

  1. Online
  2. In-person with one of the vendors approved by the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR).
  3. Via phone by calling 1-888-922-6743

Owners mustd provide detailed information regarding their boat, including the Hull Identification Number (HIN), Idaho bow number, length, hull material, fuel type, etc. Additionally, individuals will also be responsible for paying the appropriate registration fees.

Idaho Boat Title

All boats with a mode of propulsion that is permanently attached (i.e., sail, inboard motor, personal watercraft) and vessels over 12 feet must be titled, with the exception of canoes, kayaks, rafts, driftboats, and some other vessels.[4]

Individuals who purchase a boat from a private seller must visit a county assessor’s motor vehicle office to apply for the title within 30 days of purchase. The following will be required[5]:

  • Original title – Signed over by the previous owner
  • Bill of Sale
  • Release of InterestRequired to show ownership has been relinquished from any party named in any of the submitted documents.
