Maine Boat Registration
Motorboat owners must register their vessels with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (MDIFW) and get validation stickers before they can be used on state waters.[1]
To register a newly-purchased boat, the owner must do the following[2]:
- Obtain the boat’s previous registration from the seller.
- Deliver the boat’s bill of sale and registration to the MDIFW Office in Augusta or the nearest Recreational Vehicle Agent (usually the town clerk or tax collector).
- Pay registration fee (current fees can be found on this webpage).
If registration occurs outside the owner’s town of residence, a document showing proof of payment for excise tax will also be required.
