Maine Boat Registration

Boat owners must register their vessels with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (MDIFW) and get validation stickers before they can be used on state waters.[1]

To register a boat for the first time, the boat’s owner must fill out the Recreational Vehicle Registration Application and Use Tax Certificate and deliver the application and certificate to the MDIFW Office in Augusta or nearest Recreational Vehicle Agent (usually the town clerk or tax collector) with a copy of their bill of sale form and registration fee payment (current fees can be found on this webpage).[2]

If registration occurs outside the owner’s town of residence, a document showing proof of payment for excise tax will also be required.
