The grantee, the person receiving the property, will be responsible for settling any claims associated with the title once they become the owner.

The grantee, the person receiving the property, will be responsible for settling any claims associated with the title once they become the owner.

Recording Details

  • Signing Requirements – The grantor must sign the document in the presence of a notary public.[1]

  • Recording Fees – $30 for the first 50 pages and $2 for each additional page (as of this writing).[3]

Formatting Requirements

Quitclaim deeds in South Dakota must follow these formatting standards[4]:
  • Paper:
    • White
    • No smaller than 8.5″ x 11″ and no larger than 8.5″ x 14″
    • At least 20-pound weight
  • Ink: Black; signatures may be in black or dark blue ink.
  • Font: No smaller than 10-point type.
  • Margins: Top margin of 3” on the first page, 1” for all other sides and pages.
