Recording Details

  • Signing Requirements – The grantor must either sign the document in the presence of a notary public or a single witness.[1]
  • Where to RecordRegister of Deeds Office[2]
  • Recording Fees – $30 for the first 50 pages and $2 for each additional page (as of this writing).[3]

Formatting Requirements

Quitclaim deeds in South Dakota must follow these formatting standards[4]:
  • Paper:
    • White
    • No smaller than 8.5″ x 11″ and no larger than 8.5″ x 14″
    • At least 20-pound weight
  • Ink: Black; signatures may be in black or dark blue ink.
  • Font: No smaller than 10-point type.
  • Margins: Top margin of 3” on the first page, 1” for all other sides and pages.
