Signing Requirements

The patient’s attending physician must sign the Iowa Out-of-Hospital Do-Not-Resuscitate Order.[1]

Out-of-Hospital

The document provided is an out-of-hospital DNR form, which emergency medical personnel will adhere to in any setting outside of a hospital. However, hospital staff can legally follow the order if it complies with state law and established hospital policies and protocols.[2]

When admitted to a health facility, the patient’s physician can update their medical record to include a DNR, or the physician and patient can discuss and complete the IPOST form.
