A Louisiana independent contractor agreement is a written contract used by an individual or business (client) to hire an individual offering their professional services (independent contractor). This agreement includes a description of the services to be performed by the contractor, the amount of financial compensation they are to receive, who is responsible for expenses, and the rights and obligations of both parties.

Since the independent contractor is not an employee of the client, the contractor must agree to maintain liability insurance and obtain the proper business licenses. Furthermore, their status as an independent contract allows them to complete the services in their own way and on their own time, and they can accept other business opportunities during the arrangement as long as they don’t interfere with the client.
