The Maine motor vehicle (BMV) power of attorney is a document that grants someone (the “attorney-in-fact” or “agent”) powers to act on behalf of another individual (the “principal”) for tasks regarding a motor vehicle. The agent will have no other powers beyond what is listed in the form, and the principal has the power to revoke the agent’s authority at any time.

The principal and agent must both provide their names and addresses to complete the form, as well as the vehicle’s make, model, and VIN number. Once this power of attorney has been signed and notarized, the agent will have the right to handle all matters regarding the sale, transfer of title, registering, licensing, and/or transfer of ownership with the vehicle listed in the form.

Signing Requirements – Notary Public.
