The Minnesota motor vehicle (DVS) power of attorney allows a vehicle owner (the “principal”) to authorize an agent to make decisions and execute forms related to their vehicle with the Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS). The agent’s authority is limited to registering, licensing, and transferring the title of the vehicle listed in the document, and it terminates upon the principal’s revocation.

This arrangement is often used to permit a licensed car dealer to transfer a vehicle’s ownership on the principal’s behalf.  To complete the form, the principal will need to provide their vehicle’s year, make, model, vehicle identification number (VIN), and odometer reading. The names and addresses of the principal and the agent must also be included.
