Wisconsin motor vehicle power of attorney is used by the owner of an automobile to appoint a representative (the “agent” or “attorney-in-fact”) to handle their motor vehicle transactions. The agent may exercise their power to facilitate the sale of a vehicle, which may involve delivering an automobile to a buyer and collecting payment upon the transfer of ownership. Agents can also sign any DMV-issued document necessary to title, license, and register a vehicle in Wisconsin.

If a licensed car dealer is purchasing a vehicle with a lien (loan) on its title, they’ll need to use a secure power of attorney form to both transfer ownership into their name and disclose the vehicle’s mileage to the subsequent owner. Secure power of attorney forms are not available online; dealers may request the document from their local DMV office.
