Authorized Representative

If the owner of a vehicle cannot claim their towed vehicle themselves, they can authorize a representative to perform the task. The impound lot or storage facility currently holding the vehicle will require proof that this person has been given permission by the owner to do so.

To give a representative power to request the release of a vehicle on an owner’s behalf, the owner must sign a notarized letter or a vehicle power of attorney and perform the following steps to reclaim the vehicle:

  • Present proof of identity
  • Present a valid driver’s license (or have a driver accompany them)
  • Provide a signed and notarized vehicle power of attorney
  • Present vehicle registration card, certificate, or title
  • Sign a vehicle release form
