A Maine rental application is used by landlords and property managers to screen prospective tenants and determine their eligibility for a tenancy agreement. Each applicant must provide their personal information, rental history, current employment, income, and personal references. They will also need to provide the names of any cohabitants and information on any pets and vehicles that will exist on the premises. By providing their signature, the applicant gives the landlord permission to obtain a credit report and perform a criminal record search. The applicant will usually be charged an application fee if the landlord requires a background check.
