A Utah roommate agreement establishes an equitable living arrangement between a group of individuals who have chosen to live together in the same residential rental unit. This agreement is separate from the lease contract that was entered into with the landlord, and it’s possible that one or more roommates are not even on the original lease. Creating a roommate agreement will allow the roommates to agree upon the terms and conditions as they pertain to sharing the rental space. It’s important to settle these details so no one person is stuck paying a disproportionate amount of the rent, security deposit, utilities, or other fees associated with renting the property.
In addition to the division of the above-mentioned costs, the roommates can agree on terms such as household chores and duties, approval of pets (if the lease allows it), parking spaces, guest rules, and noise limitations. This agreement may be amended from time to time as necessitated by a change in roommates or alterations to the property.
