What’s Included
The main points of a consultant job offer letter are the following:
- Introduction. The letter should introduce the client and their company and state that they wish to bring on the consultant as an independent contractor.
- Job details. The client should state what they’re looking for from the consultant and the compensation they’re willing to exchange for their services. Other details, such as the schedule, the work address, and the job title, should also be included.
- Acceptance date. The letter should end by specifying the latest date by which they expect a response.
How to Hire a Consultant
If a consultant accepts a client’s job offer, the following forms will likely be required:
- Consulting Agreement – This document establishes the terms of the client and the consultant’s working relationship.
- Form W9 – Must be provided by a client to the consultant to verify their tax information.
- Non-Disclosure Agreement – A legal form in which an individual agrees to maintain the confidentiality of certain information.
- Form 1099-NEC – This document reports an independent contractor’s earnings to the IRS (provided they are compensated over $600).
