Alabama Pistol Permit
As of January 1st, 2023, anyone at least 19 years old and legally entitled to carry a gun can conceal carry without a permit, training, or a background check.[2]
Those who wish to obtain a permit can do so through their local Sheriff’s Office (licensing procedures vary between counties).[3]
How to Apply
The following steps are generally required to obtain a pistol permit[4]:
- File an application at the Sheriff’s Office (see sample application).
- Present valid identification and proof of citizenship.
- Pay the licensing fee.
- Submit a set of fingerprints.
- Pass a background check.
- Allow 30 days for the Sheriff’s Office to process the application. Notice of approval or denial will be delivered by mail.
