Kentucky Vehicle Registration (3 Steps)Newly purchased vehicles in Kentucky must be registered and titled under the new owner’s name within 15 days of the sale. Before registration, the bill of sale or the assigned title must remain in the vehicle at all times.[1]
1. Assigned TitleOnce a bill of sale has been signed, the original owner must assign the vehicle’s title to the buyer. The Kentucky title must contain the notarized signatures of both parties. 2. Application DocumentsTo apply for title and registration, the following documents must be gathered[2]:
Kentucky Motor Vehicle Power of Attorney – Must be presented to the county clerk if a person besides the owner is applying for registration and transfer of title. 3. County Clerk’s OfficeAll applications for vehicle registration and titling must be done through the office of the county clerk in the county where the owner resides. The clerk will ask the owner to pay registration and titling fees.
