Maine Vehicle Registration (4 Steps)

All vehicles that will be operated on public roads must be registered with the Department of the Secretary of State, Bureau of Motor Vehicles.[1]

 

1. Contact Office

All registration applications must be completed through one of 13 BMV offices in the state.

2. Excise Tax

Excise tax must be paid before a registration application can be processed.[2] This tax is paid at the local municipal office where the new owner of the vehicle resides. A receipt will be provided after payment is made.
