West Virginia Registration (3 steps)

First-time vehicle registrations must be done in person at a DMV regional office.[1] Registrations can be renewed online.

2. Submit to DMV

The buyer can submit the forms to the DMV to transfer the title and register the vehicle. They can expect to pay a titling fee, lien fee (if applicable), and the registration and/or registration transfer fee. A titling sales tax will likely also apply.

3. Obtain Inspection (if applicable)

Within three days of purchase, the buyer must bring the vehicle to an MVI station for inspection if it doesn’t have a valid WV inspection sticker. They must bring with them the registration card and certificate of insurance. Inspections are valid for 24 months, after which they must be renewed.[2]
