An Illinois firearm bill of sale allows the buyer and seller of a firearm to sign off on the details of the transaction. Buyers in private sales are required to submit a transfer record to a licensed firearms dealer within 10 days of purchase; the bill of sale can be used for this purpose. Private Firearm Sales – Buyers must provide a sale record to a licensed dealer within 10 days. Furthermore, sellers must wait 72 hours after a sale before giving the firearm to the buyer.[4]

Illinois Concealed Carry

A valid concealed carry license (CCL) is required to carry a concealed weapon.[5] Residents who are at least 21 and meet the eligibility rules may apply for the license online. The criteria below are required when applying:

  • Completion of concealed carry training from an approved instructor.
  • A valid FOID card (unless the applicant is in the process of obtaining one).
  • Proof of residency for previous 10 years.
  • A fingerprint scan.

A FOID card allows individuals to own or purchase firearms. Individuals 21 and older can apply for the card online for a fee.
