New Mexico residents must have a concealed carry license to carry a concealed handgun legally. Residents will need to complete the following to obtain a license^[3]:

1. Complete a certified gun safety course with a certified instructor.
2. Get fingerprinted at the sheriff’s department. An appointment may be made online with the IdentGo service.^[4]
3. Gather the following documentation:
   • Completed Concealed Handgun License Application
   • Completed Authorization to Obtain Health Information
   • Completed Authorization for Release of Information
   • Two fingerprint cards
   • Two color photographs
   • A certified copy of the applicant’s birth certificate
   • Training certificate from completed gun safety course
   • Proof of residency
   • Copy of the applicant’s driver’s license or ID card
   • Application fee
4. Submit the application, supporting documents, and fee to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) either online or by mail to:

The applicant should receive a response from the department within 30 days of receipt.^[5]
