South Dakota Boat Registration

Registration and titling are required for boats over 12 feet long and motorboats of any length.[1] Titling must be done within 45 days of the transfer of ownership.[2]

The new owner must register and title the vessel by following the steps below.

  1. At the County Treasurer’s Office of the buyer’s residence, provide the following:
  2. Pay the excise tax and title and registration fees to the county treasurer.
