An Alaska boat bill of sale is a form proving that ownership of a boat was transferred from one person to another in a private sale. It contains detailed information on the boat, including the make, model, length, year, title number, and hull identification number. The bill of sale also includes information on the buyer and seller, and both parties should inscribe their signatures at the bottom of the document to validate the transaction. When registering a boat, the person registering must prove ownership. There are a number of documents accepted for registering a boat, including a boat bill of sale.
Alaska Boat Registration
In Alaska, non-powered boats do not need to be registered (e.g., sailboats, lifeboats, seaplanes, etc.). The following steps outline the requirements for registering a motorized boat in the state:
- Gather the necessary documents for registration, which include the following:
- The Boat Title and Registration Application (Form B1)
- Proof of ownership (such as a bill of sale)
- Go to the nearest DMV Office; and
- Pay the required fee ($24 for powered boats).
Boat titling: The BoatExemptions.pdf packet can be used to determine if the boat requires titling.
