An Alaska motor vehicle bill of sale is a document used to provide the buyer of a vehicle with proof of ownership. The bill of sale is presented in conjunction with the vehicle’s title at a DMV center during registration. Either party can complete the form – all that matters is that the details entered are correct and that it is signed by both parties. Both the buyer and seller should be sure that the bill of sale records the vehicle’s identification number and identifying features, such as the color, make, and model. It should also contain the parties’ names, contact information, signatures, and the sale date.

Alaska Vehicle Registration

The buyer will need to register their new vehicle within ten (10) days of the sale. First-time registrations cannot be done online – they must take place at a DMV office. After purchasing a vehicle through a private sale, the buyer will need to take the following to their local DMV office:

    1. Completed Vehicle Transaction Application (Form V1);
    2. Vehicle’s title;
    3. Vehicle’s previous registration;
    4. An Odometer Disclosure Statement (if not already included in the bill of sale or title); and
    5. The requisite registration fees (registration cost tool).
