An Alabama firearm bill of sale provides documentation that an individual paid an agreed-upon amount of money in exchange for ownership rights to a firearm. The form can be used for selling long guns, handguns, muzzleloaders, and any other federally-legal firearms. Alabama is a very gun-friendly state and contains no restrictions on how private sales are conducted. One notable statute is § 13A-11-72, which mandates that the buyer of a pistol cannot be someone who was convicted of a violent crime or is a drug addict/drunkard. While performing a background check can provide the seller with peace of mind, it is by no means a requirement.

Concealed Carry Laws

Statute§ 13A-11-75

Alabama residents need a locally-issued Pistol Permit to carry a concealed handgun within the state. Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years old and comply with all federal and state requirements to possess the firearm. Licensing procedures vary between counties; filers should contact the Sheriff’s Office for local application instructions. The following is typically required:

  1. File an application at the Sheriff’s Office (see sample application).
  2. Present valid identification and proof of citizenship.
  3. Pay the licensing fee.
  4. Submit a set of fingerprints.
  5. Pass a background check.
  6. Allow thirty (30) days for the Sheriff’s Office to process the application. Notice of approval or denial will be delivered by mail.
