Oklahoma Vehicle Registration (4 Steps)

1. Receive Certificate of Title from Seller

Before applying for registration, the buyer will need to obtain the vehicle’s Certificate of Title from the seller. The seller must complete the assignment portion, transferring ownership to the buyer, and sign and notarize the document.

2. Fill Out Title Application

The Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title for a Vehicle (Form 701-6) must be completed by the buyer and signed in the presence of a notary public.

3. Take Required Documentation to Tag Agency

After completing the above steps, the buyer will need to take the following paperwork to their local Service Oklahoma or Licensed Operator location to apply for title transfer and registration:[1]

  • Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title for a Vehicle
  • Certificate of Title
  • Motor Vehicle Bill of Sale (or Form 722-1)
  • Odometer Disclosure Statement – for vehicles made in/after 2011
  • Proof of liability insurance
  • Valid driver’s license

4. Pay Fees and Taxes

Before registration can be completed, the buyer must pay the required registration fees and excise tax.
