An Oklahoma motor vehicle bill of sale is a receipt for a vehicle purchased from an unlicensed vendor that is executed by the buyer and seller. The buyer will be required to present the completed form when they apply for title and registration. The document must include the purchase price, date of sale, and the vehicle make, model, year, and VIN. The contact information of the buyer and seller should be included as well. Once the form has been completed and both parties have signed, it acts as proof that the vehicle was sold, the full payment was made, and the vehicle’s ownership was released by the seller to the buyer. Furthermore, the buyer will be required to submit a copy of the document when they apply for registration.

Oklahoma Vehicle Registration/Titling

After a private motor vehicle purchase has been made, the buyer will need to register and title it in their name within thirty (30) days from the transaction date. To obtain vehicle registration and title for their newly acquired vehicle, the following steps must be completed by the buyer:

  1. Complete payment to the seller and obtain a signed bill of sale for the vehicle.
  2. Receive the vehicle’s Certificate of Title from the seller. The seller must complete the assignment portion of the document, transferring ownership to the buyer. The title must be signed by the seller and notarized.
  3. Complete the Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title for a Vehicle (Form 701-6) and sign it in the presence of a notary public.
  4. Take the following paperwork to their local Oklahoma Tax Commission tag agent:
    • Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title for a Vehicle
    • Certificate of Title
    • Motor Vehicle Bill of Sale
    • Odometer Disclosure Statement
    • Proof of liability insurance
    • Oklahoma driver’s license
  5. Pay registration fees and excise tax.
