Considerations Before Treatment

While completing the consent form, clients must answer a series of questions that skincare professionals will review before administering treatment. These answers will help identify problems that could affect the client’s safety and the overall results of treatment. Below are some details that should be strongly considered.

  • Acne Medication Use – Acne medications like Accutane and Claravis contain isotretinoin, which can increase skin sensitivity and make clients more likely to experience discomfort during treatment.
  • Skin-Related Issues – If the client has skin cancer, eczema, cold sores, or other skin conditions, they must consult their doctor to assess whether facial treatments are safe.
  • Allergies* – By understanding a client’s allergies, skincare professionals can avoid using products and ingredients containing allergens.

*Clients may be unaware of their allergies. In this case, a medical facility should obtain consent to perform an allergy test from the client/patient.
