A Maryland independent contractor agreement defines the terms and conditions of an arrangement between a contractor and their client for an exchange of services for payment. This contract does not create an employer-employee relationship between the parties; rather it explains that the contractor is independent of the client and responsible for completing the job on their own schedule, using their own methods, while maintaining the proper licenses and insurance for themselves and their workers.

The independent contractor agreement also specifies what type of services will be offered, by what date they should be completed, how much and when payment will be provided by the client, which party is responsible for any applicable expenses related to completing the services, and other key components of the arrangement. When the parties sign the document, it becomes legally binding upon them.
