The Virginia 30-day notice to terminate a month-to-month lease is the notice used by a landlord or a tenant in a periodic tenancy who wishes to terminate the rental agreement by the next rent cycle, providing the receiving party with thirty (30) days to prepare. If it is the tenant receiving the notice, they will be required to move out before the end of the notice period or the landlord can bring an action for possession and the tenant may be liable to pay damages, attorney fees, and court costs. A different notice period may exist so long as it’s included in the rental agreement and signed off on.
