Frequently Asked Questions

Does a tenant need a lease addendum to make improvements?

Yes. An addendum or written agreement with the landlord is usually required to make improvements and modifications to a rental property. Most leases will contain a provision that prevents the tenant from making alterations to the property without the landlord’s written consent.

Can there be additional agreements to the addendum?

Yes. The addendum can be made in conjunction with a separate agreement. For example, the tenant and landlord may sign another document where the landlord agrees to cover the cost of materials or temporarily reduce rent as compensation for improvements to the property.
