An Iowa rental application is employed by landlords to gather information from potential tenants in order to find the most suitable candidate for residential real estate tenancy. This document contains a number of sections that must be completed by a prospective tenant, including their personal information, rental history, current employer, monthly income, banking information, and personal references. Furthermore, by signing a rental application, the applicant gives the landlord license to look into their criminal, rental, and credit history.

Application Fee (No Statute) – A landlord is not limited by state law in the amount they can charge for application fees.
Pet Deposit (No Statute) – A landlord is not limited by state law in the amount they can charge for pet fees/deposits.
Security Deposit (§ 562A.12(1)) – Landlords may not demand a security deposit amount from a tenant in excess of two (2) months’ rent.
