The Maine roommate agreement is a document that puts in place terms concerning the rights and responsibilities of tenants who reside in the same residential space. A roommate agreement is typically drawn up before signing a lease to specify the amount of rent each person is required to pay, including their portion of the utility fees. It also allows the roommates to establish a cleaning schedule, designate areas for smoking, and determine the dates and hours when guests are permitted. Although a roommate agreement isn’t required, it can prove beneficial to avoid disputes between roommates.
