The North Dakota move-in/move-out checklist is a written statement that relays the condition of a residential rental unit at the beginning and end of a tenancy term. Once a tenancy expires, the document allows the landlord to determine if the tenant is liable for any damages within a rental unit and make deductions to their security deposit accordingly. The costs of any cleaning or repair that falls under the tenant’s responsibility can also be deducted if the tenant has not returned the dwelling to its original state, as recorded during the move-in inspection. If a landlord does not return a portion of the security deposit, they must itemize the deductions and deliver the notice to the tenant within thirty (30) days after the termination of the lease. A move-in/move-out checklist must be agreed to and signed by the landlord and tenant prior to finalizing a rental agreement.
