A Texas notary acknowledgment is a certificate a notary public uses to verify the signature and identity of a document’s signatory. Before they complete the acknowledgment, the notary will need to have the signer state that they signed the document for the reason it was created. State law requires notaries to confirm a signer’s identity through their own knowledge of them (if they are acquainted), by examining their photo ID, or by obtaining the oath of a third party.

Notaries in the state are appointed to 4-year terms (§ 406.002).
